Would it change anything if next week you could read twice as fast? What about THRICE? Know that it's not impossible. Thousands of other Canadian students are getting ahead this year with speed reading. So how do you catch up?

"Learn speed-reading at home in just 3 hours!"

You want to read faster. Much faster. In 2006, 50 students from Canadian post-secondary institutions were selected to participate in the Thinkfast speed-reading study. Participants included students from the University of Waterloo, University of Toronto and Queen's University as well as Guelph, York, Ryerson, Carleton, Ottawa and Brock.

When I say speed-reading I mean reading twice... three... four times as fast. Even 10 times as fast in some cases... and remembering the stuff really well. Over 85% of students in the study managed to double their speed or more.

The thing is... I don't want you sitting down and practicing for hours and hours to try to read a little faster... that would defeat the purpose.

You're trying to read faster to have more free time right?

“My name is Christian Collins. I’m 22 years old. Being successful has always been important for me. Whatever I do, I want to better than others, whether I’m in school, at work or playing hockey.

I’m involved in many activities. I’m a full time student at the University of Toronto (in my last year), I work part time in an accounting firm and I’m trying to kick off my own business project.

At the same time, I hate working long hours. I don’t really work more time than most people, so I find time to play hockey and spend time with my friends and family.

I started speed-reading in my first year of university. It was really shocking at first. My classmates would spend really long nights getting ready for tests, and I was ready in 1/3 of the time.

I thought about how much time we all spend reading (especially if you’re in school.) It makes a big difference if you can read a chapter in 20 minutes when someone else is taking at least an hour to do the same thing."

Thinkfast Speed-Reader

So we made a small change. Thinkfast Speed Reading lets you pick up speed-reading at your own pace. You know... 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there. This approach is much more effective than trying to do it all at the same time or through a 3 hour lecture. The program is designed to let you start using your skills right away and to fine-tune as you go.

“I'm Andy. I just finished my first year at the University of Waterloo. This summer I gave speed-reading a try and I can only say that I'm really looking forward to next school year.

I know how stressful exams were last time, so I'm much better prepared for this year. My reading speed went up from 243 words per minute to 685 (3 weeks since getting the program.)

I recommend Thinkfast speed-reading for anyone who wants to do well in school."

Science makes the difference

Just as your athletic performance depends on training, your reading ability depends on how you prepare. We want you to break free of your old habits. Becoming a speed reader means you can tackle the four main problems that readers develop from a young age:

1. Being taught to read (and think) too slow
Following elementary school, rarely is care taken to actively improve a student's reading and comprehension speed. We will be able to bring out your true potential with a change in mindset through short exercises.

2. Subvocalizing words (pronouncing out loud or in your head as you read)
Naturally, this limits your reading ability to the rate at which you can pronounce the text you read. We will look at this closer and practice eliminating subvocalization.

3. Slowing down and re-reading words
Breaking pace and losing attention leads to poor understanding and greatly reduced reading speed. You will learn to read at your peak comprehension rate -- the rate at which you are learning at your best.

4. Reading words and letters one at a time
In the same way that it is not sensible to read individual words by their letters, it is not sensible to read a sentence by words. Although this may not be obvious, you will see how understanding the reading process will lead to reading faster than before.

Read with core words
Core words are a set of the 400 most-used words in the English language. Because they are very common to everyday reading, you become more accustomed to seeing these words -- your brain doesn't take as much time to process these words as others. The words around the core words are key words - they contain most of the meaning for a given sentence. They are words are what we train you to focus on. Thinkfast will teach you to recognize core and key words as you read, so you'll be able to gather meaning even as you read faster.
